episode 31 (ep.5 season 2)

The beginning of the festival including the tea shops and the arrival of the manga award that Harima applied for.

Summary:

We start off with the school festival having just started. One of the teachers walks into the main class in this series’ room. The room is packed full of guys and incredibly busy for a coffee/tea shop. The teacher is sat down and given a menu of girls from the class to pick as to which one is going to serve him. The teacher kind of flips out about this and says he can’t possibly since he is a teacher and this is wrong but one of the girls manages to calm him down.

The boys’ shop isn’t doing so good because the girls’ tea shop is attracting all the customers. One of the boys goes to check out what’s going on and all of the girls are now role-playing roles of less dominant characters in a male and female relationship, nurse and doctor, police chief and an officer and so on. The guy doesn’t come back and so Hanai this time goes to see what the matter is. He is greeted by Yakumo in the police relationship and Hanai completely folds and goes along with it.

Harima who is forced to do dishes is stopped by Itoko and is told that the teacher in the other house wants him. He is kind of confused because Itoko is a teacher but he goes anyways and finds himself in a room with Yakumo as a manga artist and Harima as his assistant. Harima goes along with the role-playing thing and talks to Yakumo about why he draws manga and Yakumo tells him don’t give up even though Harima tells her his passion has kind of faded.

Outside, Harima is sitting under a tree when he gets a call from the manga contest agency. Apparently he won the award and he rushes to get it as the ceremony is almost over because apparently Harima wasn’t able to have been reached. Harima tells Yakumo about the good news and heads off. Yakumo decides to decorate a cake for Harima to celebrate his award and when Tenma walks in she again gets the wrong impression that there is a thing between Yakumo and Harima.

Tenma carries Yakumo’s cake with Harima written on it as well as the one she made with Karasuma written on it to celebrate his birthday. As Harima is running through the halls he bumps into the cake that Tenma placed on a table, the one for Karasuma. Harima ruins the cake to the point where the writing of Karasuma is ruined and all that he can see is the “MA” at the end of it. Harima thinks that Tenma made the cake for him, having the last two letters of his name also be “MA” Harima fixes the cake to spell Harima but later when Tenma gives him his cake from Yakumo that says Harima on it he kind of freaks out and realizes he wrote Harima on the cake for Karasuma. When Tenma sees this she is really confused and when giving it to Karasuma eats the part that says “HARI” As Tenma sulks in the stairwell Karasuma approaches her and kind of comforts her and the episode supposedly ends.

After the credits we get a segment about the boy who thinks of Harima as a brother which we saw in an episode in season one. He had a huge crush on Yakumo and he is at the festival with a girl his age who likes him. They go though and the girl is kind of depressed and all that the boy hasn’t noticed her but when she runs into Yakumo she gives her some reassurance and later when the two meet again the boy said he was worried about her because she got separated and the girl is kind of happy at this and the episode really comes to an end.
